The U.S. Military requires any optical product – from periscopes to rifle scopes – used by the warfighter to have laser protection coatings. LFUs and LIFs are optical assemblies that attach to any rifle scope, night vision system, binocular or other optical system used by the military. These assemblies have thin-film coatings that are deposited onto acrylic, glass, or other type of substrate to block certain wavelengths of light that can damage the hardware or the soldier's eye.
